Greece received 710,024 visa applications in 2024, ranking as the fifth country for the highest number of applications handled.
According to statistics published by SchengenVisaInfoGreece received around six per cent of all applications that were submitted to member states in 2024, which totals up to 11.7 million, Schengen.News reports.
While the average approval rate for all countries was around 84 per cent, Greece’s approval rates were slightly higher, at around 86 per cent, accounting for a total of 609,612 visas being approved.
The top visa applicants for the Greek Schengen visas in 2024 were nationals of Türkiye who filed 296,377 visa applications, or represented 41.7 per cent of all visa applicants for the year. Moreover, the Greek consulate located in Türkiye is among the three consulates that received the most visas in 2024.
Russians followed with 69,690 applications (9.8 per cent), while the Chinese represented the third group with 43,702 applications or 6.1 per cent of the total. Indians represented the fourth group with 41,418 applications (5.8 per cent), while foreigners in the United Kingdom filed 34,126 applications (4.8 per cent).
Greece Was Likely to Issue Visas to Nationals of These Countries
As per applicants who were more likely to obtain Greek visas, the following had a higher visa approval in proportion to their application rates:
- Foreign nationals in Australia filed 962 applications, were granted 955 visas, representing 99.27 per cent in visa approval rates.
- Foreign nationals in Canada – 1,316 applications, 1,306 visas and 99.24 per cent visa approval rates.
- Foreign nationals in Singapore – 1,238 applications, 1,228 visas and 99.19 per cent visa approval rates.
- Foreign nationals in Ireland – 750 applications, 739 visas and 98.53 per cent visa approval rates.
- Nationals of Kazakhstan filed 10,320 applications, out of which 10,146 were approved. That represents 98.31 per cent of all applications.
Nationals of These 5 Countries Had Lower Chances of Obtaining a Greek Schengen Visa
The data revealed that nationals of some countries, mainly those in Africa and Congo, had a higher chance of being denied a Schengen visa by Greek authorities.
In total, nationalities that were most likely to have their application for a Greek visa rejected are as follows:
- Pakistani nationals, whose visas were approved 30.5 per cent of the time, resulting in 242 approved visas out of 794 applications.
- Congolese nationals – 33.88 per cent – 2,178 approved visas out of 6,248 applications.
- Nigerian nationals – 37 per cent – 161 approved visas out of 435 applications.
- Algerian nationals – 43.83 per cent – 902 approved visas out of 2,058 applications.
- Tunisian nationals – 53.78 per cent – 1,132 approved visas out of 2,105 applications.
