Mr. Hadjivasiliou visited the Chancellor of the North Rhine-Westphalia state, where he met with the Minister for Federal, European and Foreign Affairs Nathal Liminski, following a meeting in early April in Athens. The deputy minister also met representatives of the youth of the ruling Christian Democratic Party (CDU), with whom he exchanged views on European developments, the dynamics of Greek -German friendship and the role of young people in politics.
Earlier, Mr. Hadjivasiliou visited the Consulate of Greece in the city, which covers the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, the most populous of the country and at the same time an area where the largest Greek community resides in the EU, with more than 150,000 Greeks. At a meeting with the Greek Consul General Vassilis Koini, issues were discussed with the needs of the Greek community, as well as ways to strengthen the Greek business presence in the area.
The Deputy Foreign Minister also met with Serraos Archimandrite Theophanes Lappa. During the debate, views on the role of the Church in the Greek community were resonated.
Concluding his visit to Düsseldorf, Mr. Hadjivasiliou said: “Düsseldorf and Northern Rhine-Westphalia are points of reference to Hellenism in Germany.
