Greece – Cyprus Intergovernmental Summit: Mitsotakis – Christodoulidis meeting underway – Joint statements to follow

It is in progress at Maximos Palace or meeting of its president Republic of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulidis with the prime minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in its context 3rd Intergovernmental Summit of Greece – Cyprus.

According to government sources, the focus of the discussions are the following areas: Environment, Health, Education, Transport, Digital Policy, Housing, Civil Protection, Justice, Culture and Foreign Policy. At the same time, the competent ministers of the two countries are expected to proceed with coordinated actions and exchange of good practices, strengthening the long-standing close bond between Athens and Nicosia.

Special gravity will be given to the latest developments in the Eastern Mediterranean, in the Cyprus issue, after his election Tufan Erhiurman to the leadership of the Turkish Cypriot community, as well as the upcoming one Presidency of the Republic of Cyprus to the Council of the EU in the first half of 2026.

Central topic in the discussion of two leaders expected to also constitute energy issues, especially in light of the latest geopolitical developments. Among other things, the Prime Minister will inform him President Christodoulidis about his recent contacts with American officials and the agreements signed in Athens, which strengthen Greece’s geopolitical and energy position in the wider region, including Ukraine.

The third Greece-Cyprus Intergovernmental Summit which takes place in Athens, two years after its official institutionalization by Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Nikos Christodoulidis in 2023, has a firm goal of intensifying the cooperation between the two countries and expanding it in a number of areas, beyond foreign policy, where cooperation and coordination between Athens and Nicosia is permanent.

Its meeting will follow at 12:00 Plenary of the Synod and then at 1:00 p.m. the joint statements of the two leaders to the press.
