The South Korean monopoly authority today fined 207 billion won ($ 176.64 million) to Google, announcing that the American technology giant is abusing its dominant position in the market, in order to restrict competition in the mobile telephony operating system of the market.
The Korea Fair Trade Commission (KFTC) has investigated Google for allegedly preventing local mobile phone makers from using other operating systems.
The fine is the latest protection against competition from Google in South Korea.
Earlier in the month, parliament passed a bill banning large mobile app providers such as Google from pressuring software makers to use large corporate payment systems to effectively cut charges for app purchases. from the respective application stores.
According to the KFTC, the fine may be the ninth largest ever imposed.
