Germany and Italy are the third- and fourth-largest recipients of Schengen visa applications for 2024, each receiving over one million visa requests.
According to statistics published by SchengenVisaInfoGermany received over 1.5 million Schengen visa applications in 2024. Despite the large number of applications received, Germany was overtaken by Spain, which became the second country with the most visa requestsSchengen.News reports.
On the other hand, Italy received around 1.2 million applications in 2024, up from X recorded in the previous year. In total, Schengen states received around 11.7 million Schengen visa applications in 2024.
Chinese & Turkish Nationals Filed Most Visa Applications to Germany & Italy in 2024
Both nationalities, Chinese and Turkish, are top applicants for Schengen visas in Germany and Italy. In total, Chinese applicants filed 263,088 applications for German Schengen visas. Turkish nationals, on the other hand, filed around 215,506.
Indians and Egyptian nationals follow on the list, filing 142,955 and 52,442 applications, respectively, while Belarusians, the fifth nationality group with the most applications for Schengen visas, filed around 51,841.
On the other hand, Chinese applicants filed 227,293 visa applications for Italian visas, followed by Russians, who submitted 161,401 visa applications in 2024, representing the second-largest group for visa requests.
A total of 117,432 applications were filed from Türkiye, while Indians filed 60,365 applications. Saudi applicants are the fifth group, with 50,410 applications.
Applicants From These Countries Are Most Likely to Have Their German & Italian Schengen Visa Applications Approved
Italy had a higher approval rate for applicants from the following countries:
- Belarus – 49,588 out of 49,712 applications were approved, showing that the approval rate was 99.75 per cent.
- The US – foreigners in the US filed 16,729 applications, 99.09 per cent, or 16,576 of those being approved.
- Japan – foreigners in this country were approved 2,015 visas out of 2,036 applications, representing an approval rate of 98.97 per cent.
- Singapore – 98.88 per cent approval rates, resulting in 3,987 visas out of 4,032 applications being approved.
- Australia – 3,310 approved applications, resulting in 98.72 per cent approval rates.
On the other hand, Germany approved most of the applications from applicants from Hong Kong (2,333 visas issues, 99.53 per cent approval rates), followed by applicants from Madagascar (184 visas, 97.33 per cent approval rates), Belarus (50,459 visas, 97.33 per cent), Singapore (6,136 visas, 96.55 per cent) and China (253,505 visas, 96.36 per cent approval rates).
