“We made them last for two years, so people can extend Merkel’s term for another two years,” Chuber added, smirking.
The confectionery company has been operating for 40 years. It started as a small, family business and, although it now has the machinery to do mass production, it retains its handmade creations.
“Mrs Merkel is a special edition. We will make about 500 pieces “with the chancellor’s face made of almond paste, explained Chuber.
The eight-member team of confectioners will need two days to complete the eight stages of preparation of the first batch of “Merkel macaroons”.
