The previous visit of the Gerapetritis to Damascus

It is recalled that Mr Gerapetritis had visited the Syrian capital last February, where he had extensive conversations with transitional President Jolani and the country’s new leadership.

During his visit, he had clearly expressed Greek concerns, underlining the need for a smooth and inclusive political transition, without exclusion of religious or ethnic groups. The Greek Foreign Minister had then emphasized that the Syrian people must determine their future, without foreign intervention – with a clear peak to Turkey, which is trying to turn Syria into an extension of its sphere of influence.
