In detail the statement by Mr. Gerapetritis:
I welcome Palestinian Foreign Minister Varsen Aghabekian Shahin today to the Foreign Ministry.
Joy today is greater as this historical juncture we are experiencing allows us to be – for the first time in recent years to be optimistic.
We are just a day after the “Sharm Elm El-Sheikh Peace Summit” and the historic peace agreement for Gaza.
The agreement itself is the tangible proof of the power of diplomacy.
It is crucial to apply the first phase of US President Donald Trump’s peace plan.
Achieving a ceasefire to stop bloodshed, hostage liberation and mass providing humanitarian aid are a decisive first step towards a comprehensive settlement, the beginning of the political process aimed at resolving the two states, based on the relevant United Nations’ resolutions.
Of course, it is imperative to fully implement the plan.
The days we go through are historical. The weapons were silenced in Gaza, but the road is still long. We must not overlook the constant challenges and risks of ignition in the West Bank. And our eyes must always be in the activation of the second phase of the Peace Plan, which will consolidate sustainable peace and prosperity in the region.
At the same time, complete involvement of the Palestinians and the Palestinian Authority is required in all aspects of the application of the Peace Plan for Gaza, Security, Humanitarian Aid, Reconstruction of the area.
Greece, with traditionally strong bonds with the Arab world, has stood by the Palestinian Authority and the Palestinian people.
We have systematically supported the financial support of the Palestinian Authority within the European Union and are advocates of the reform and reform of Palestinian institutions.
The support of the European Union and the substantial strengthening of institutions are a necessary condition for the implementation of the peace plan and to promote the political process in the Middle East.
Greece was present yesterday at the Peace Summit Sharm El-Sheikh, in the presence of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas. I had the special honor of accompanying the prime minister and experiencing firsthand the anxiety and the hope of the Palestinian people.
Greece aspires to play an active role in the next day in Gaza and the Middle East, and we are ready to contribute substantially to the implementation of the Peace Plan, always under international law and the decisions of the United Nations Security Council.
First, by massively providing humanitarian aid to relieve the civilian population. Greece has already provided many humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people and is involved in all initiatives. Achieving a truce enables us to do much more in the field of humanitarian aid, in collaboration with our partners.
Secondly, gauze stabilization is key to embarking on security conditions and to ensure the return of the Palestinian Authority to Gaza as soon as possible. Our country, a partner and friend of all states in the region, is a consistent and honest interlocutor. Our contribution will be critical and important.
Third, in terms of rebuilding, we are intended to mobilize the private sector of our country. Our goal is through development to substantially improve the life of the Palestinians in the region.
Dear Ms. Minister, on February 3 of this year we had the opportunity to meet in Ramala and there we had no room for optimism. Today, on the contrary, it is a joyous day for the Middle East.
Greece will continue, I assure you, from every position, as a member of the EU, as a member of the UN Security Council, but also bilaterally, to actively support any initiative that promotes the continuous and viable solution of the Middle East and peace in the wider region. With the start of the first phase of political solution, Greece is already one step closer to its declared position for the recognition of the Palestinian state.
Dear Mrs. Minister, with these thoughts I welcome you and your delegation to Athens, wishing to be in constantly improved conditions for the Palestinian people every time.
