Gaza: Over 40 dead and 200 injured by Israeli attacks – half died in their attempt to get food

At least 40 people were killed today (16.06.2025) by Israeli fire, half of them near a distribution center managed by the US -backed humanitarian institution for the Gauze (GHF), while UN officials denounced those supported by Israel Assistance distribution methods.

According to rescuers, at least 20 people were killed and 200 others were injured near Rafa Aid Distribution Center, the last of the daily incidents of fire that has cost the lives of hundreds of Palestinians trying to get food since Israel.

Israel has given responsibility for distributing much of the aid that allows it to enter Gaza in the new GHF organization, which manages three points in areas guarded by Israeli troops. The United Nations rejects the plan, saying that distribution from GHF is inadequate, dangerous and violates the authorities of impartiality in humanitarian aid.

There was no direct comment by the Israeli army about today’s reports of shots. In previous incidents, the army has occasionally acknowledged that he had opened fire near distribution points, accusing the fighters of causing violence.

Relatives of the dead arrived at Nasser Hospital today to mourn their own people. Women and children were crying next to bodies wrapped in white savannahs.

“We went there believing that we would get help to feed our children but proved to be a trap, a murder. I advise them all: Don’t go there, “said Ahmed Fayyad, among those who tried to get humanitarian supplies today.

«A murderous food distribution system”

Philip Lazarin, head of the UN service for Palestinian refugees UNRWA, said in a post on X: “Crowds of people have been killed and injured in recent days, including people starving and trying to get food from a murderous distribution system.”

Before the new system was set up, distribution of aid to 2.3 million Gaza residents was mainly done by UN services, such as UNRWA, which employs thousands of people within Gaza and operates hundreds of points throughout the enclave.

Israel claims that it was forced to suppress the distribution because Hamas’ fighters used food aid for other purposes. The fighters deny this and say that Israel uses starvation as a weapon.

Yesterday, Cogat, the Israeli Ministry of Defense, which is responsible for coordinating humanitarian issues with the Palestinians, said this week facilitated 292 Humanitarian Truck by the United Nations and the international community in Gaza. He said that the Israeli army would continue to allow humanitarian aid to enter, while ensuring that it does not reach Hamas.

Prior to today’s incident, the Ministry of Health in Hamas Gaza controlled that at least 300 people have been killed so far, and more than 2,600 have been injured near distribution points since GHF started its activity.

In Geneva, Falker Turk, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, UN Human Rights Council told the UN Council today that Israel “turned food” into Gaza. He also repeated the request for investigations into the deadly attacks near GHF distribution points.

“Israeli’s war and methods are causing terror, unmistakable suffering for the Palestinians in Gaza,” Turks said.

“The creepy, inhumane rhetoric by high -ranking Israeli government officials is reminiscent of the most serious crimes,” he added.
