OR Gauze It was officially declared in Stars on Friday (23.08.2025), by the integrated United Nations Food Security System (IPC). The conclusions promptly triggered a strong reaction from the Israel. According to the UN, 514,000 Gaza residents are already living in “destructive” conditions and that number can reach 641,000 by the end of September. The organization emphasized that the limits of acute malnutrition and famine have been overcome in the northern part of the enclave.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the exhibition as a “shameless lie” and even “anti -Semitic slander”, accusing Hamas of stealing humanitarian aid and tooling hunger. “Israel has no political famine, but a political prevention policy.” In the US, the State Department has adopted a more careful tone. Although he recognizes the seriousness of the humanitarian crisis, he argues that “he is considering reliable reports that the IPC has recently changed the definition of famine”.
The United States believes that Hamas “promotes a false narrative of mass starvation to exert political pressure” and insist on the need to provide aid “while preventing Hamas looting”, according to the Times of Israel.
Accusations
Tel Aviv claims that millions of tons of aid have entered Gaza since the beginning of the war and accuses Hamas of seizing the majority of humanitarian loads. The Israeli government also accuses the IPC that it “falsified its own criteria” by reducing the limits that allow stake to be declared. The Foreign Ministry described the report as “constructed” and promised that it would end up “in the trash of political documents”.
For its part, the UN considers that Israel bears immediate responsibility. “The famine in Gaza could have been avoided without the systematic obstruction imposed by Israel,” humanitarian heads Tom Fletcher told Geneva. The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Falker Turks, recalled that “the imposition of famine for military purposes is a war crime”.
A huge humanitarian crisis
In the field, the chaos scenes are growing. Daily, crowds gather at the few distribution points, where hunger and violence often lead to deaths. The UN warns that famine can spread in the coming weeks in the areas of Deir al -Bala and Han Younes.
Since October 7, 2023, the date of Hamas’ unprecedented attack on southern Israel (1,219 dead on the Israeli side), Israel’s military response has caused at least 62,192 deaths in Gaza, mostly civilians, according to the Ministry of Health.
