From the “no” referendum on the “pasture” of the clientele -state – The new set -off: to re -establish the scarecrow of 2015

The referendum of July 2015 will stay in history not for his heroic rise, but for the institutional. With 61.3% citizens rejected lenders’ agreement to one of the most charged political events of the Transfiguration. The result, however, was almost immediately canceled – the government signed Another harder memorandum And the people felt again that they used it.

The Council of Political Leaders, which could act as an institutional brake, became part of the problem: it turned the crisis into a tool of set -offs and responsibilities. Instead of a new national strategy, we had just another political maneuver.

Democracy without counterweight – the client state returns

Ten years later, the lid of the crisis is again in the air – this time with the OPECEPE scandal. Millions of euros in subsidies were wasted in non -existent pastures, fake rentals and day -to -day services. The € 415m fine from the EU is not just a budgetary wound; it is the moral bankruptcy of a state that continues to operate with “cone”, factoring and backstage phone calls.

And yet, no institution worked preventively. Neither internal controls, nor independent authorities, nor justice seemed capable of putting a brake on, needed a European institution to put us in surveillance. Talks of factors and farmers looking for ways to grab from subsidies expose not only faces, but the model of governance that returns undisturbed from the past.

The new offsetting: to re -establish the 2015 scarecrow

Today, as OPECEPE’s scandal is deepening, a political trick is attempted: to come back the ghost of 2015. To discuss the referendum again, who is to blame, what happened then and to set up the old scarecrow of “burnt hope” so as not to answer the hot questions.

Zoe Konstantopoulou: Our “no” has never been defeated – ten years by the referendum

Who knew about virtual subsidies? Who benefited from the parasite? What political officials or factors facilitated the looting of Community resources? These are not answered with a return to 2015. On the contrary, yesterday’s tool is again defense against today’s accountability.

A state without institutional memory

The deeper wound and then and now is the same: the absence of institutional antibar. The Council of Heads in 2015 did not protect the popular will and did not explain, did not publish the minutes. Behind the closed doors he buried the truth so as not to expose political figures. The administrative mechanisms in 2025 did not protect public money. The customer state does not die by laws and slogans, but only with accountability, transparency and moral political class.

Ten years later, the crisis did not end – it was just resting. And now that the lid has burst again, some are looking for alibi in the past, instead of making the only honest act: to reveal the truth and punish the culprits.

Because if history repeats itself as a farce, our political system repeats it as pre -emptive offsetting. And this is no longer a crisis – it’s a decline.
