‘Temporary stability’ is provided by the agreement on the trade announced between the USA and the EU and predicts that US tariffs on European products will be 15%, while remaining “heterogeneous”, Benzame Handad, Deputy Minister of European Affairs in France, estimated today (28.7.2025).
Specifically, Mr Handad said through X that “the trade on the trade with the European Commission with the US will bring some temporary stability to the economic agents threatened by the US tariff escalation, but they are heterogeneous”, warning the European danger.
Mr Hadad welcomed that the agreement excludes “key areas of the French economy (aeronautics, alcoholic, drugs)”, excludes “any concession to our sensitive rural areas” and “maintains” intravenous “European regulations”.
“But let’s be clear: the situation is not satisfactory and cannot be constant,” Mr Hadad said, stressing that Washington “made the choice of economic coercion by completely despising the WTO rules.”
“We need quick conclusions or we will be in danger of getting lost,” he added.
At the same time, the Minister of Industry Mark Feratsi considered that “this story has not ended”, considering that more talks will be needed, for weeks or even months before the agreement was officially finalized.
Mr Ferachi told RTL’s radio that it would take more effort to re-balance US-EU trade.
The deal was announced during a meeting by US President Donald Trump with European Commission President Ursula von der Laien in Scotland.
It provides for the implementation of 15% duties to European products imported into the US market, the US -worth of US $ 750 billion in US energy – primarily for the replacement of Russia gas – and European further investments in the US market, worth $ 600 billion.
The two sides have also decided to proceed with the mutual lifting of customs duties imposed on categories of strategic importance, especially in the aeronautical sector, Mrs von der Layen said in the press.
