French Interior Minister Bruno Retaeus estimated that “Macronism” is not an ideology or a political movement, in an interview published on Wednesday (24.07.2025) in the French far -right magazine “Valeurs Actuelles”, signaling a widthy Emmanuel Macron.
His intervention came less than two years before the 2027 presidential election, with Retaiyo already projecting as one of the potential successors of Emmanuel Macron.
“Macronism will end with Emmanuel Macron because it is not based on an ideology or political stream, but on a person,” the minister said.
2027 elections in the foreground
The retailer, a former senator and a traditional conservative, has not officially announced nomination, but his statements show his intention to politically differentiate, at a time when majority executives are trying to chart their own course.
His statement was made in a period of fragile political balance, with the government based on a fragile coalition of center and conservatives, while internal tensions are expected to intensify as the 2027 election is approaching.
The Retaiyo was elected in May leader of the Republican Party and is now considered a popular figure on the right because of his strict attitude towards immigration and organized crime, issues belonging to his responsibilities as a minister.
According to a poll by Ipsos published this month, its popularity reaches 36 %, compared to 24 % of Macron.
His statements sparked reactions from Macronism executives. Former Prime Minister and current Minister of Education Elizabeth Born responded via Platform X: “Macronism is an ideology and a political party. Together action requires mutual respect. “

Macron was elected in 2017, projecting above the traditional left-right separation, adopting a pro-European and friendly political line. However, the left is considered too much -friendly to the elite, while for the Right not quite strict on safety and immigration issues.
Retaey predicted that after the end of Macron’s second term, the political scene would return to the traditional left -right separation. A source from his environment, who spoke anonymously, said he did not intend to resign and that the minister would meet with President Macron tomorrow Thursday.
