France appealed to the European Committee against Skinnytok Trend in Tiktok

The Minister of Digital Policy France Clara Sapaz announced today, on Good Friday (18.04.25) that it has appealed to the European Commission, as well as to the French SME Regulatory Authority on the issue of Skinnytok, which prefers extreme weakness in the Tiktok.

“Skinnytok, a trend that promotes extreme wickedness on social media. Unacceptable, “the French minister wrote in a message he uploaded to LinkedIn, confirming that he appealed to the European Commission and the Audiovisual and Digital Communication Regulatory Authority (ARCOM).

“I make the protection of minors on the internet one of the priorities of my action,” she added in a video she uploaded to the same social media, assuring that she would not allow “platforms to avoid their responsibilities.”

Arcom told the French News Agency that “it has already been involved in the issue given the risk of public health that this phenomenon could raise.” The Authority also said that it wants “gathering evidence to substantiate this risk in France” and “informed about the measures that Tiktok is applying to address”.

In contact with AFP, Tiktok has not yet responded. In this network, the keyword “Skinny” was connected to more than 500,000 publications today at noon France.

These videos, in which they mainly star in young women, include tips to lose weight.

The platform has posted a warning message in the form of a banner over the relevant publications, which transfers users to a page with sources associated with eating disorders.

In early March, French MPs approved the establishment of a research committee on the psychological impact of Tiktok on children and adolescents, as the social media is particularly popular with young people.

In Meta’s Instagram social media media, the search for the word “Skinny” transfers the user directly to a helping page that can be bypassed to access the publications.
