For four fake news around the new workplace bill of Ministry of Labor and Social Security, announced today (30.6.2025) by the responsible Minister Niki Kerameos, are referring to ministry sources.
Specifically, the Ministry of Labor circles denies that according to the new bill, employees will work 13 hours without overtime payment.
In detail, the news that the ministry denies:
Lie No1: The employee will be able to work for 13 hours.
Truth: No, the obligation to work goes until the 9th hour. That is, until the time of overwork. Beyond that, there must be an agreement between an employee and an employer. The employee must give his consent. So one cannot be forced to work for 13 hours.
Lie No2: The employee will be forced to work for 13 hours and without overtime payment.
Truth: Any overtime is paid by law with at least +40% salaries. Therefore, the employee must consent to work more than 9 hours, and there is a specific compensation, increased for hours and overtime with +20% and overtime hours with +40%.
Lie No3: There will be a regulation under which the employer can recall and cancel the employee’s summer leave.
Truth: No, there is no such regulation in the bill.
Lie No4: The contract of an employee can be reported and be fired with an SMS.
Truth: Nothing changes absolutely in relation to the terms of dismissal and in relation to the employment contract solution.
