Five dead after incidents on the Afghanistan-Pakistan border

At least five people were killed and six others injured in incidents that broke out on the border between Afghanistan and Pakistanfor which the two countries accuse each other.

A hospital official in the Spin Boldak district of Kandahar province in southern Afghanistan told Agence France-Presse (AFP) that “five people died, four women and one man, while six others were injured” on the border with Pakistan.

The hostilities took place against the backdrop of the new round of peace talks being hosted in Istanbul, aimed at consolidating the truce agreed on October 19 in Qatar that ended the bloody clashes between the two countries.

According to the UN, 50 civilians have been killed and another 447 injured on the Afghan side of the border during the week of clashes. Five more people were killed in explosions in Kabul.

The Pakistani military, for its part, says 23 of its soldiers were killed and 29 wounded, without citing civilian casualties.
