Initially on Wednesday night it became known that a man was found charred in a car on the Monagri -Alas’ road in Cyprus. The man was trying to escape the great fire that had broken out in the area, but failed.
A short time later the firefighters found that there was another corpse in the same car …
The fire broke out Wednesday afternoon in a mountainous area north of Limassol in Malia, and quickly expanded rapidly in Vassa Kilaniou due to strong winds and high temperatures.
Authorities were trying to unleash residents in the village of Lofou throughout the night, about 26 km from Limassol.

Heatwave
The temperature on the island reached 43 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, with authorities issuing a “orange” level warning. The conditions are expected to worsen Thursday, with temperatures of up to 44 degrees.
Cyprus is affected by prolonged drought, with aquatic reserves receding at critical levels.

The fires destroyed houses in the Sunni and Zanakia communities on Thursday morning, while firefighting aircraft will try again with the first light of the day.
A total of 16 communities, 3 camps and excursions were evacuated until the morning.
Specifically the communities were evacuated:
Saint Ambrosios, Kyides, Souni-Zanatzia, Saint Therapon, River, Malia, Vassa, Vassi, Kydou, Hill, Kantou, Pera Pedi, Monagri, Souni, part of Epson, Erimi.
Also, the campsite spaces, beyond the field, Agia Mavri and other spaces in the surrounding area.
