Uncontrolled raging from Tuesday afternoon (6/8) fire In the French Prefecture of Od, south France. At least one man lost his life, while two more were injured, one of which seriously, with extensive burns.
According to local authorities, more than 80,000 acres of vegetation have already been burned within a few hours, as the fire is reinforced by strong winds. Traffic has been interrupted in both streams of the A9 Highway connecting France with Spain, while about 2,500 households have been left without electricity.
Houses burned – residents with tires try to save their possessions
In the village of Saint-Loran-de-La-Cepheris near Carcasson, the flames entered the settlement and destroyed houses, while about 30 houses were evacuated. Holidaymakers from nearby camping were removed for preventive reasons.
In the village of Tournissan, residents are desperately trying to stop the fire with watering tires, according to a French agency photographer.
The extinguishing operation involves 1,820 firefighters and have slightly injured three. They are attempting nine Canadair, five dash and two helicopters – the total of the country’s available air means. However, until it was night, the fire was not under control.
The Secretary General of the Prefecture, Luci Ross, said that the spread of the fire was “very fast”, but expressed hope that its intensity would decrease at night due to increased moisture and reducing winds.

President Emmanuel Macron said in a post on X that “all available state resources have been mobilized” to tackle the crisis.
