Saint Aphrodisius glorified with his martyrdom the land of Cilicia. Full of divine zeal, he worked for the lighting of infidels, revealing the lie of idolatry and teaching the truth of the Gospel.
In 65 AD, Lord Dionysius, when he was informed of this Aphrodisius action, condemned him to death. At first he was thrown into some lioness in the amphitheater. But something paradoxical happened. Leena’s impetus stopped a few steps from the saint, and the hungry beast overtook him without touching him.
They then burned him with incandescent iron, and eventually found a martyred death between two great stone, where they had put him and crushed him. His body was literally crushed, but the power of his soul and his faith were kept intact.
