The European parliament approved today at Strasbourg by an overwhelming majority (almost unanimously) resolution condemning the illegal continuing detention of the five Greek Cypriots in the occupied, demanding their immediate and unconditional release.
Of the 602 MEPs present, 597 voted in favor and there were only 5 abstentions. The resolution was supported by all the major political groups.
In their resolution, the MEP re -condemn the ongoing illegal possession of the northern part of Cyprus by Turkey for 51 years and they complain «Severe violation of international law and obstacle to peace, stability and relationships European Union – Turkey».
«Indifference of occupation regime for any notion of justice»
The Parliament also condemns «the adacorporationa of occupation regime for any concept of justice but also to attempt abduction and hostage Greek Cypriots For escalation of bullying, anddump and to target and influence those attempting to visit their ancestral property or to appeal to the ‘Real Estate Committee’ in the occupied areas».
End, the MEP point out that the EU has a moral and legal duty to support Cypriot Democracy and its citizens, who are also European citizens, and call on the committee and her European Foreign Action Service to take all necessary measures, including existaσης Possible sanctions.
