On June 24, the draft version of the EU-Armenia visa liberalisation action plan will be discussed.
The announcement has been confirmed by the EU Commissioner for Internal Affairs and Migration, Magnus Brunner, Schengen.News reports.
The comments came in a meeting held between the Armenian Minister of Internal Affairs, Arpine Sargsyan, during her visit to Brussels and the EU Commissioner for Internal Affairs and Migration, Magnus Brunner.
In the meeting, both sides discussed the process of the EU-Armenia visa liberalisation process, stressing the importance of concrete steps.
Minister Sargsyan introduced the ongoing reforms in Armenia and highlighted the Armenian side’s readiness to make significant efforts in realising the action plan.
In addition, Sargsyan invited the Commissioner Brunner to Armenia next year to more closely coordinate the actions and also learn about the large-scale changes being implemented.
Visa Liberalisation Achievable Through Joint Forces
In September 2024, the European Union Ambassador to Armenia, Vassilis Maragos, expressed his confidence that the EU-Armenia isa liberalisation process could be finalised through joint efforts.
He said that there are areas in which Armenia needs to continue working, stressing that technical teams from both parties will also collaborate on them.
In particular, document security is very important to ensure that travellers have secure passports and can be properly identified. Other sectors that ensure safe travel and destinations are also important. However, with joint efforts, I believe we can achieve this significant goal for the benefit of the citizens of the Republic of Armenia.
EU-Armenia Launch Political Level Dialogue
In September 2024, the EU and Armenia discussed the beginning of dialogue on visa liberalisation for Armenia at the political level.
The decision was announced following a meeting held between the European Commission Vice-President Margaritis Schinas with the President of Armenia, Vahagn Khachaturyan, the Prime Minister, Nikol Pashinyan, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ararat Mirzoyan.
During his visit to Armenia, Schinas said that other aspects of the EU-Partnership Agenda will also be discussed.
The launch of the dialogue on visa liberalisation – at the political level with Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan – is a strong signal by the EU and its Member States of their determination to deepen the already solid partnership between the EU and Armenia.
The Commission launched visa liberalisation talks with Armenia in July 2024. It was reported that the dialogue between both parties would be conducted under the Visa Liberalisation Action Plan (VLAP).
