EU: Green Light for the 17th Package of sanctions against Russia – in the target the “shadow fleet” of Moscow

EU states agreed to a new package sanction against Russia because of the ongoing aggressive war against Ukraine.

Among other things, it provides for further tightening measures against the so-called Russian fleet’s fleet to transport oil and petroleum, as diplomats reported after the vote to the Committee on permanent representatives of the 27 EU Member States. BFM channel.

There are also plans to target dozens of other companies involved in the circumvention of existing sanctions or in support of the Russian Defense Industry.

Following the agreement, almost 200 additional ships will be banned from entering EU ports. Operators will no longer be able to benefit from services provided by European companies.

According to the plan, about 30 economic operators will be affected by the new export restrictions. Another 75 people and companies will no longer be able to operate in the EU and should also be afraid of freezing assets.

The new penalties will be officially approved next Tuesday at a meeting of EU Foreign Ministers and will then enter into force immediately. Further punitive measures against organizations and individuals are also foreseen to spread false news and human rights violations.

Sanctions against ships mainly relate to the restriction of Russian exports, but also the protection of the environment. Russia has long been accused of based on ships that do not belong to Western shipping companies or is not insured by Western insurance companies to bypass the western prices of oil exports to third countries.

According to experts, there are great risks to shipping and the environment. They point out, for example, that many tankers are obsolete, have technical defects and sometimes travel without an automatic recognition system.
