ETIAS Fees Increase to €20: What Non-EU Travelers Need to Know by 2026 – Schengen Visa News

The European Commission has announced a significant change to the ETIAS fees for non-EU travelers. Once operational, the cost of obtaining travel authorization through the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) will rise from €7 to €20.

As per the announcement of the European Commission, this adjustment reflects both the growing operational costs of managing the ETIAS platform and broader economic factors such as inflation. The update also brings the EU in line with similar travel authorization systems in countries like the United States and Canada.

ETIAS is designed to streamline entry into 30 European countries for visa-exempt travelers while enhancing border security. Before traveling, eligible individuals will need to complete a simple online form that collects personal and travel-related data. Most applications will be processed automatically, with decisions issued within minutes.

What is ETIAS?

Travelers from the nationals of all 63 countries that do not require a visa to enter the EU countries will have to apply online for the ETIAS, which is an authorization to enter the 30 EU countries.

Who is Exempt from Fees

While the new fee will apply to the majority of adult travelers, specific exemptions remain in place. Children under 18 and adults over 70 will not be required to pay ETIAS fees, maintaining accessibility for younger and older travelers.

Before the fee change becomes official, it must pass a two-month review by the Council of the European Union and the European Parliament. If no objections arise during that period, the new ETIAS fees will come into effect once the system launches—currently scheduled for the last quarter of 2026.

ETIAS Validity and Use

The ETIAS is valid for 3 years or until the passport used in the application expires (whichever comes first). This Permit stays for up to 90 days within any 180-day period. You must have a valid ETIAS throughout the entire stay. Furthermore the multiple entries are allowed within the validity period, respecting the time limits.
