From the beginning of the year until July 30, it has been diagnosed and investigated – according to EDY – a total of 17 domestic cases of western Nile infection in Greece.

Of these, the 14 cases presented events from the central nervous system (CNS, encephalitis and/or meningitis and/or acute loose paralysis) and three cases had mild manifestations/no CNS events.

According to the EDYY Epidemiological Report, West Nile Infection Infection in Greece have been recorded in 15 municipalities in the country, in eight regional units, and in particular in the regional units: West Attica, West of Athens, Piraeus, Piraeus, Islands, Easta, Eastos

The EDY considers it possible to diagnose further outbreaks in the coming period.

As the epidemiology of the virus is determined by many factors, the virus circulation areas and the possible incidence areas in each transmission period cannot be safely predicted. As a result, the EDY recommends complying with individual mosquito protection measures throughout the territory throughout the mosquito circulation period.

In the European Union and in its neighboring countries, from the beginning of the surveillance of the infection until 23/07/2025, in addition to our country – IM’s infection has been recorded in: Romania and Italy.
