Turkish authorities proceeded early Saturday morning to a new barrage arrestthe fifth in a row, in relation to the prosecutions against her mayor ConstantinopleEkrem Imamoglou, and other mayors of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) of the opposition.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office of Constantinople issued arrest warrants against 47 people, Chp executives in local government. Among the warrants are five of the mayors of regional municipalities, three in Istanbul (Bujuukmetz, Gastirapasa and Avjilar) and two in the province of Adana (Sheanehan and Jayhan). A former MP of the CHP was also arrested.
From very early in the morning, police were executing the warrants and 30 people had already been arrested by about 10:00.
After this development, the Chp organs in Istanbul meet emergency.
Just last week, on May 23, another wave of arrests – fourth in a row – had taken place in relation to the Imamoglou case, with the issuance of arrest warrants by the prosecution at the expense of another 49 people.
