According to the epidemiological report of EYEin the last week diagnosed/reported Two domestic cases of West Nile virus infection.
From the beginning of the period 2025, until October 8, a total of 93 domestic cases of West Nile virus infection in Greece have been diagnosed and investigated, of which 75 cases presented events from the central nervous system (CNS, encephalitis and/or meningitis and/or meningitis) events/ no events from the CNS.
In total, during the period 2025, until today, 8 deaths have been recorded in patients with virus infection and CNS manifestations over 65 years of age.
In the period 2025, to date, there have been records of western Nile virus infection in Greece in 41 municipalities in the country, in 23 Regional/ Metropolitan Units, and in particular in the Regional/ Metropolitan Units: West Attica, Western Sector, Western Sector of Athens Achaia, Aitoloakarnania, Evros, Larissa, Karditsa, Trikala, Arta, Pella, Imathia, Thessaloniki, Evia, Corinthia, Messinia, Heraklion and Lefkada. It is considered possible and expected to diagnose further outbreaks in the coming period.
In the European Union and in its neighboring countries, there have been – apart from our country – outbreaks of IM infection in: Albania, Bulgaria, Croatia, France, Italy, Spain, Hungary, Romania, Serbia, Kosovo, Northern Macedonia and Turkey.
