Following the apologies of the seven defendants, a doctor and a pharmacist were found in custody for the Circuit of illegal prescription which is estimated to have caused huge financial damage to EOPYY, which exceeds one million euros.
According to the decision, the doctor and pharmacist who are taken to prison are alleged to have had a central and leading role in the action of the criminal organization. On the contrary, the other five stakeholders were released, but by imposing the restrictive term of compulsory appearance on a police station. In some of them, there was a financial guarantee as a security guarantee.
In their apologies, all the defendants denied the acts attributed to them, arguing that the prescriptions controlled were absolutely legal. Their defense has also raised issues on “gaps” that, they claim, exist in the massive case file that has been formed.

EOPYY activated the mechanisms of systematic and combination controls to identify illegal practices. The microscope included the prescription limits, the guided recipes in specific pharmacies, the compliance with drug restrictions, with particular emphasis on drugs, prescriptions of drugs outside approved indications, and cases of overdose. In addition, complaints of insured persons were investigated for recipes issued unknowingly.
A glaring case was found in the wider area of Megara-Aspropyrgos. EOPYY’s audit services revealed illegal prescription of antipsychotic drugs by a particular physician. The result was the imposition of the physician of a € 1.2 million mammoth fine, the immediate interruption of its ability to prescribe, while the Board of Directors of the Agency filed a lawsuit and activating conservative seizure measures to defend its financial interests.
Checks were expanded, linking the executions of the prescriptions of this particular doctor with a pharmacy in the same area, to the owner of which were also imposed. The prescription patterns analysis systems have indicated other doctors in the same geographical zone, whose recipes ended up in the same pharmacy. And these doctors were checked and imposed fines and charges.
The Apocalyptic Dialogues of the Organization
The conversations that have been aware of the authorities are indicative of the method of operating and the mentality of those involved. In these, it is heard a pharmacist-a “leader” consulting with an employee-a “member” for “some executions” of a doctor’s prescription, a practice that was probably aimed at hiding the full volume of illegal prescriptions or in stock management.
The dialogues such as:
- «Come on“, With the employee responding similarly, suggesting a worrying intimacy in illegality.
- Discussions about ‘closing’ recipes: ‘Just came the biofern .. to close them ……. (Doctor of a member)? Are all partial execution“, With the pharmacist asking to discuss it closely, showing cautiousness of sensitive issues.
In other conversations, there is concern about the ongoing investigations:

In addition, talks are recorded where a doctor gives instructions to a pharmacist on the quantities of drugs that need to be “passed” in prescriptions such as: “Augmentin of 50, put five», «Azampin of 45, put two», «Anafranil of 25, he has taken two, put four” Interesting is the doctor’s labeling for a specific drug: ‘Diamicron is not going, it’s one month, so two will get in“, Revealing knowledge of the boundaries and at the same time attempting to bypass them where it was possible.
The investigations by the authorities are continuing to complete the case and the responsibility of all those involved in this large scandal at the expense of public health and insured.
