At the same time, Macron emphasizes that “the urgent need today is to end the war in Gaza and to save the civilian population.”
France will then co -chair, with Saudi Arabia, an international conference of heads of state and governments aimed at reviving the so -called “solution of the two states”, Palestine and Israel.
This conference, originally scheduled for June, was postponed at the last minute due to the war between Israel and Iran. In the meantime, a meeting at the level of ministers is scheduled for July 28-29 in New York.
To date, 142 UN Member States recognize a Palestinian state. The US and Israel are strongly opposed to this plan.
President Macron emphasizes that “the urgent need today is to end the Gaza war and to save the civilian population”. In this context, “we must finally build the state of Palestine, ensure its viability and enable it, accepting its demilitarization and fully recognizing Israel, contribute to the stability of the whole of the Middle East,” he adds.
With the recognition of a Palestinian state, France aims to “make a decisive contribution to peace in the Middle East” and “will mobilize all its international partners wishing to participate in it,” Macron wrote in a letter to the President of the Palestinian Authority.
