ELTA: Consultation with local communities to “run” the restructuring – The three priorities and the whole plan

Meeting with the Management of ELTA had today (07.11.2025) its CEO Superfund Mr. Yiannis Papachristou after the uproar that broke out due to the decision to close 204 stores and the “snowfall” of developments that led to the resignation of the CEO of ELTA, Grigoris Sklikas.

At the meeting, the three priorities of the Superfund for ELTA, which are its subsidiary, were raised.

Specifically, it was discussed:

  • to immediately begin visits and consultation with local communities in all areas where the restructuring plan is planned to be implemented and to find optimal solutions to the challenges identified,
  • to undertake an information initiative and to present the modern mode of operation of ELTA and the services already provided, as well as
  • to accelerate transformation efforts within the framework of the strategy already drawn up.

Mr. Papachristou acknowledged on behalf of the Superfund that an integrated plan had been made without taking into account critical parameters such as the information and preparation of local communities. In this light, he committed himself to the immediate conduct of an extensive and substantial consultation with institutional bodies, at national and local level, and the exploration of partnerships with the local community.

It is noted that the company is already implementing an integrated strategic transformation plan, which has yielded positive results. Specifically:

  1. The merger of ELTA and ELTA Courier was achieved, creating the strong second pole in the sector.
  2. Investments are made in new technologies and digital services that allow real time monitoring of the progress of the services offered.
  3. Postmen are now equipped with portable terminals and mini-printers and can implement almost all services with a single home visit.
  4. The company has entered a new era with the utilization of real estate for the first time and results are expected in the next period of time. The relocation of the ELTA offices is already a move that saves the company 55,000 euros per year, while the Kaisariani building is released, with a significant commercial value, which is attracting strong interest. At the same time, a valuation of the company’s total real estate was completed for the first time and a holistic utilization plan is being organized.
  5. ELTA’s services are being expanded with more and specialized banking services and products, in collaboration with ALPHA BANK.
  6. Recovered large corporate clients (telcos, banks, international couriers).
  7. Citizen service hours were extended in 11 cities and the elta fastpost application was created to schedule appointments in 74 stores.
  8. Smart postboxes were installed all over Greece.
  9. The vehicle fleet is being strengthened to improve the distribution network.

Also, in previous years, ELTA eliminated loss-making commercial operations (e.g. electricity supply), made a broad voluntary exit, redesigned the distribution model and integrated robotic technology in sorting reducing costs and time.

The above moves contributed to the improvement of the company’s financial data. Despite this, the challenges for ELTA remain due to the high competition of the market which is evolving at a high speed on a global level.

In relation to ELTA, it should be noted that:

  • the postal market has been liberalized for decades and is NOT subject to any state aid,
  • mail is constantly reduced, up to 90%,
  • competition in courier services is increasing with domestic and international players,
  • the demands of citizens are changing, as they demand ever greater speed and accuracy in service,
  • the physical flow of parcels, letters and payments is now transferred from physical, fixed buildings to door-to-door service.

In this direction, a new reality has been formed in ELTA. Already:

  • 92% of pensions are served at home,
  • 90% of mail is delivered to your home.

In the light of the above, the next quarter will be used in the most effective way in order to meet the challenges and ensure the sustainability of the organization, under the non-negotiable condition that no region, no citizen will be left without postal coverage.

At this point, the important contribution of Grigoris Sklikas, the late CEO of ELTA, who accelerated the implementation of the transformation plan, should be noted. He served with integrity and commitment to the modernization of ELTA and with his decision to resign for reasons of integrity, he facilitated the possibility of continuing the transformation plan.

On the part of the Superfund, the smooth continuation of the transformation plan will be ensured, with a simultaneous emphasis on support and respect for the needs of local communities, as is also the publicly expressed will of the State.
