Alarm rang today (10.04.2025) to elementary school at Eloundain which it was identified mercury. Students and cleaners were transferred to the hospital, while the school complex was closed and a business is being made to remove the dangerous material.
Mercury was located in the courtyard of an elementary school in Elounda with seven students and two cleaners being hospitalized for preventive reasons.
According to information from neakriti.gr, After finding 50 ml of mercury, the point was excluded immediately and actions began to remove the dangerous chemical.
From the first moment at school, a private workshop was found to collect and clean the site, EMAK men, as well as three firefighting vehicles.

According to him, mercury was identified during the first break by seven students. As he clarified, The substance did not come from the thermometer, as the quantity was large but probably from another object not found in the space.
Of the seven students, the four were taken to the hospital, examined and left, while others are expected to be examined. The cleaners were also examined and withdrew from the Nursing Foundation, However they will remain in isolation in their home for 48 hours, for preventive reasons.
Regarding how mercury was found at school, Mr Mamakis said he was probably transferred during the night by unknown people.
Finally, it is clarified that due to Easter holidays, students will not return to school before the end of the festive days.
