Electricity: Remove scales in charges Suggested Raeer

Raising the different charges per step of consumption power suggests the Regulatory Authority of Waste, Energy and Water (RAAE), with the proposal to impose regulatory measures on the supply of electricity recently put into public consultation.

More specifically, Raeav’s proposal concerns the constant (“blue”), floating (“yellow”) and dynamic (“orange”) invoices (not “green”) while excluding cases where the consumer has a “smart” power meter, which is currently a minority. And it aims to better inform consumers, but it is causing reactions from the suppliers.

The intervention relates to cases where charges change by consumption (a “x” value for the first BC 200 kW per month and a higher price for the next kilowatt -hour or for the total consumption when it exceeds the specific limit).

The rationale of the regulatory authority is that the charge on the first consumption step in some cases is used as a “barrel” to attract customers. It should also be noted that the consumer is not practically able to check whether the consumption is approaching or exceeding the limit above which the charge changes (unless it checks the indication on the meter at regular intervals).

This feature is provided by smart meters that can digitally send information to the consumer, but the additional condition that relevant applications are developed.

“The purpose of the intervention is to ensure consumer information in a direct and understandable manner. The final decisions will be made after a dialogue, “RAEEE Vice President Dimitris Fourlaris told RESEEE.

On the part of the suppliers, however, as the director of ESPEN (the Hellenic Association of Energy Suppliers) pointed out to RES-EIA (the Hellenic Association of Energy Suppliers) Miltos Aslanoglou limits the variety of invoices offered to consumers.

Market sources have reported that the most important issue, both in terms of charges and the completeness of consumer information, mainly arises when there is a long distance between the charges of different scales and in the case of invoices that are mixed, that is, firmly for some kilowatt and floating.

The suppliers are expected in the coming days by RAEE.
