A new category invoice Electricity, the “reds”, bring the Waste, Energy and Water Regulatory Authority (RAAE).
RAAE’s Vice President Dimitris Fourlaris spoke to ERTNEWS saying that “they are essentially flexible invoices, where the final charge depends on the consumption of the household”. He stressed that it would be something ‘between purely stable and floating“Keeping up on how the charges will be formed.
“Red invoices are not affected by the wholesale market, but they are not purely stable, like blue,” commented Mr Fourlaris. As he noted, this new category will come into force after the completion of the public consultation, which expires in August 31.
New products will offer predetermined values per scale of consumption (eg a different charge for the first 200 kW, another for the next 400 and so on). Thus, the consumer is aware of the range of billing in advance, but without the “locking” of a single price throughout the contract, as is the case in blue invoices.
RAAE decided to introduce the “red” products to keep up with European Transparency and Comparable Guidelines. “We wanted to give consumers a choice that is more flexible than purely stable invoices, but also safer than the floating,” the vice president of the Authority noted.
Commenting on why consumers have turned strongly towards the “blue” invoices, he explained that “it is mainly a matter of psychology”. And as he said, “people want to know what they will pay every month, without constantly looking for wholesale prices.”
According to Mr Fourlaris and providers favor this turn, shaping higher prices on floating invoices (“green” and “yellow”) to direct their customers to the firm.
