Retrospectively from the beginning of September the “will run” subsidy at its price current, from the state according to what the Minister of Energy Costas Skrekas stated at noon on Tuesday (14.09.2021). At the same time, the minister left open the possibility of giving a bigger subsidy to the electricity bills, in case there are new increases.
As Costas Skrekas characteristically pointed out, the measure of the subsidy and in combination with the discount of PPC covers the overwhelmingly large percentage of consumers in order to have small to minimal burdens from the rally of electricity prices.
In particular, 80% of consumers have a consumption of less than 600 kilowatt hours per month and will be covered to a large extent against the increases, while 72% of consumers have a consumption of less than 300 kilowatt hours which means that the increase to be asked to pay is less than 2 euros per month.
He even gave examples concerning PPC.
More specifically:

- Household with consumption of 300 kilowatt hours, in which the commission charge is 35.18 euros, the adjustment clause will be 20.54 euros, an amount that will be absorbed by the energy discount of 9.95 euros and the state subsidy of 9 euros. In this category the total charge will be of the order of 1.59 euros.

- For consumption of 400 kilowatt hours per month, the commission charge is 46.76 euros. In this consumption the adjustment clause is 27.38 euros, and will be reduced by the energy discount of 13.27 euros, the State subsidy of 9 euros and the additional discount of PPC of 3 euros. In this consumption the increase that will be paid is 2.11 euros.
- For consumption of 600 kilowatt hours per month, the commission charge is 73.63 euros. Here the adjustment clause is 41.07 euros and will be reduced by the energy discount of 21.48 euros, the State subsidy of 9 euros and the additional discount of PPC of 9 euros. In this case the increase to be paid is 1.59 euros.
In question for the other suppliers, K. Skrekas stressed that there is no coercive tool that would force anyone to sell at a price that does not suit him. “PPC decided on its own to assist with additional discounts. There are already some suppliers who try not to pass on the whole increase to their customers. We want the competition to work in a clean way, not to mislead the consumer and to drive prices down. We can not impose the reduction but we can impose fair competition “, underlined the minister, who is going to have a meeting with the representatives of the electricity suppliers in the afternoon.
He reiterated that after the end of the year the measures will be reviewed according to market conditions. Prices across Europe are currently being pushed up by rising gas and pollutant prices and reduced supply due to the withdrawal of coal-fired plants.
K. Skrekas stated that he will raise the issue of energy prices at the next Council of Energy Ministers to be held next week.
It should be noted that the subsidy will be 30 euros per megawatt hour, as announced by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the TIF last Saturday.
The minister clarified that the state support concerns all low-voltage consumers, households and businesses, regardless of the provider from which they are supplied with energy.
