The pro-European centrist D66 party appears to be ahead of the far-right for victory in elections in Netherlands according to exit polls.
In particular, the pro-European centrist party D66 is expected to win 27 of the 150 parliamentary seats in the Dutch elections, as it appears to be ahead of Geert Wilders and the far-right Party for Freedom (PVV), which is expected to secure 25, according to the Ipsos poll.
In the Netherlands, exit polls generally reflect the composition of the parliament quite well.
However, the distribution of seats could change during the counting of votes.
Dutch far-right leader Geert Wilders admitted he had hoped for a different result after the country’s election, which was won by a centrist party and his own Party for Freedom (PVV) relegated to second place, exit polls showed.
“The voters expressed themselves. We were hoping for a different result, but we stayed true to our ideas,” Wilders said via the X platform.
Wilders said, however, that “25 seats would be the second best result we have ever achieved.
We remain a big party in the Netherlands. I will probably not be in the government if it is confirmed that D66 is the winner of the election”.
