EKT: European consumers are ready to give up American products

Ready to stop buying American products are Europeans consumers As a result of the trade war, according to a survey of European Central Bank (ECB).

According to today’s post (30.4.2025) by the ECB, consumers responding to how they would react to different potential duties – and corresponding retaliation by the European Union – recent survey respondents have revealed that they were “very willing” to find alternatives outside the US.

The researchers even found that these views were largely independent of prices, which are usually considered to lead to commercial contributions.

“Consumer reactions may not only be a temporary reaction to duties, but instead mark a possible long -term structural shift to consumer preferences away from American products and brands,” the ECB report said. “It seems that just the presence of a duty would push a large part of the consumers to review what it is buying.”

According to Bloomberg, findings come in the midst of a global response against US duties announced on April 2. In Canada, increasing tensions with the Trump government not only held the liberal Prime Minister, Mark Carney, in power, but there is also a nationwide campaign to buy domestic products instead of alternative products from his southern neighbor.

In Europe, consumers exchange internet information about the best substitutes for American products. Tesla has already seen its sales in the region fall by 43% in the first two months of the year, despite the fact that the total electric car market is increasing by more than 30%.
