With a decisive move or Egypt fully challenges the turquoisethe agreement between Turkey and Libya on hydrocarbons in south of Crete, as the country is conducting maritime searches on its western borders.
According to a Kathimerini report, Ramform Hyperion seismic investigations are being carried out on August 21 in a sea area west of Egypt, which Tripoli claims on the basis of the Turkolibyan memorandum.
It is noted that about 3 years ago Cairo had rejected the Turkish -based claims by Presidential Decree (No. 595 on December 11, 2022), which defined the western maritime border of Egypt with Libya, but is now moving in the field, conducting investigations throughout the area.
Indeed, the area where the investigations are being carried out and include a maritime plot of one among what had been granted by Tripoli to the Turkish oil company (TPA) last June.
Until this time there has been no reaction from either Turkey or Libya, although it is estimated that Libya could do so next time, possibly by letter or submitting a verbal deal to the UN.
