EE: Taxes 2 euros in packages from Shein and Temu

OR EU Plans to impose a fee of 2 euros on billions of small packages coming from China, which is a new blow to Ago and Shein, according to a Financial Times report.

Trade Commissioner Maros Sefkovic told the European Parliament that he has proposed a trafficking fee today (20.5.2025) to meet the challenges of 4.6 billion items introduced annually to the EU, such as those sent by TEMU and Shein.

The European Commission’s proposal plan, according to the Financial Times, states that the end of 2 euros will apply to direct sales, but that the items sent to warehouses will be taxed at 0.50 euros.

Some of the resulting proceeds will cover the cost of additional customs audits, while the rest of the money will be directed to the EU budget.

Sefkovic promised to face the wave of packages, which, he said, led to an increase in dangerous and non -compliant products and to complaints by EU retailers over unfair competition.
