The issues related to the current situation with their earthquakes and volcanic activity in the wider area of its island complex Santorini They were examined today (21.03.2025) at a meeting of scientists at the Ministry of Civil Protection.
As announced shortly after the earthquake meeting in Santorini, “the seismic sequence in the maritime area remains at a low level, however, the sporadic manifestation of stronger earthquakes is not excluded.”
The Permanent Special Scientific Committee for Estimation of the Seismic Risk and Reduction of Seismic Risk and the Standing Scientific Committee for Monitoring of the Hellenic Volcanic Brief of OASP, who met today at the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, in the presence of Minister Yiannis Kefalog. Lieutenant General Theodoros Vagia, unanimously announced the following:
The seismic sequence in the marine area of Anhydros between Thira and Amorgos is maintained at a low level. In the context of the seismic sequence, however, the sporadic manifestation of stronger earthquakes is not excluded.
Although seismicity is low, we have not returned to the level before seismic exacerbation. Consequently, citizens should adhere to general self -protection guidelines.
Extraordinary Civil Protection measures in the island complex of Santorini should be observed in accordance with JMD 495, Government Gazette 1267/B/1-3-2025, (https://search.et.gr).
Installations and infrastructure may return to their usual operation, except in the cases provided for in JMD 495.
The committees will meet when it is considered appropriate. “
