A thriller without end evolves into Myanmar and in Thailand, as rescuers and ordinary people are looking for debris with bare hands after the strong earthquake 7.7 Richter that hit the country yesterday (28.3.2025).
The death toll after the deadly earthquake in Myanmar reached 1,002, as the military government announced today, in a sharp increase in the initial reports of the media for 144 dead yesterday, Friday. Humanitarian aid has already begun to arrive in the country.
At least nine people lost their lives in the neighboring Thailandwhere the 7.7 -magnitude earthquake shook buildings and caused the collapse of a skyscraper under construction in the capital of Bangkok, trapping 30 people in the ruins, with 49 missing.
Dozens of videos from the time of the earthquake have been uploaded to social media by internet users. One of them shows the neonatal unit of a hospital while the major 7.7 Richter earthquake hits.
This shows the desperate efforts of nurses to protect newborns inside the special swings.
One of the nurses holds a newborn in her arms when she suddenly falls to the floor.
Her colleague tries to keep the other three swings firm, but due to the intensity of the earthquake, the wheels carrying wheels “travel” throughout the room.
The scenes are breathtaking.

Analysts from the US Institute of Geological Studies (USGS) estimate that the death toll in Myanmar may exceed 10,000 and that the cost of repairing losses will exceed the country’s GDP.
The earthquake destroyed roads, bridges and buildings in Myanmar, according to the junta, whose supreme general yesterday addressed a rare call for international aid.
“Research and rescue operations are currently being carried out in the affected areas,” Junta said today in a statement to state media.
A rescue team from China arrived in the commercial capital of Myanmar Yangon, hundreds of kilometers from the hard -affected cities Mandalai and Naipitau, the country’s capital, where parts of a 1,000 hospital have been damaged.
‘I don’t think there is hope’
In Mandalai, Myanmar’s second largest city, residents and rescuers were trying to pull out people who had been trapped under collapsing buildings, trying to remove the rubbish with limited heavy mechanical means.
After being recovered from under a wall by other residents, Hetet Min Oo, 25, said he tried to clean the rubble of a building himself to rescue his grandmother and two of his uncles – but in the end he gave up.
“I don’t know if they are still alive under the ruins,” he told Reuters, burst into tears. “After so many hours, I don’t think there is hope.”

In the ruins of skyscraper in Bangkok
Susan Hugh, a scientist in the USGS earthquake risk program, told Reuters that it is difficult to predict the number of earthquake deaths for various reasons, including the time of time.
When an earthquake is noted during the day, as happened in Myanmar, “People are awake, they have prudence, they can respond better”he said.
In Bangkok, at a distance of 1,000 kilometers from the focus, a rescue mission today stretched her efforts to find workers trapped under the ruins of a 33 -storey tower that collapsed.
Authorities used excavators, drones and special dogs in trying to get out 30 people were trapped there, including at least 15 who still show life signs.
“We will do everything, we will not stop saving lives, we will use all the resources,” Bangkok Candzart Citipund said.
Hundreds of people spent the night in parks, but the situation is getting better today, he said.
Wannpets always sat at the point where the building collapsed with her husband, watching rescue operations and waiting for their 18 -year -old daughter, included in the missing.
“I prayed my daughter to be among those who have already been taken to the hospital,” he said. “All I can do is sit down and wait.”
Help from Russia, India, Malaysia and Singapore
Russia, India, Malaysia and Singapore are sending planes full of supplies and staff to Myanmar, ravaged by a civil war after the 2021 military coup that expelled the elected political government.
“We will continue to monitor developments and more help will follow,” Indian Foreign Minister Subrachmaniam Jaisankar said.
South Korea has announced that it will provide initial $ 2 million humanitarian aid to Myanmar through international organizations.
The United States, which has a tense relationship with the Myanmar Army and have imposed sanctions on its officials, including Junta’s leader MinA Aung Hlating, said they would provide help.
The earthquake, which occurred at about lunchtime on Friday, influenced large parts of the country, from the central plains around Mandalai to the hills San, parts of which are not fully under the control of the junta.
