After the huge earthquake 8.8 Richter near the Kamchatka Peninsula at RussiaJapan issued warnings for tsunami. Citizens went up to the roofs of buildings for security.
According to the first measurements from the Hokkaido and the Russian side, the original waves were smaller than expected – about 30 to 40 cm – and not the 3 meters predicted by the authorities. The tsunami has already begun to reach some areas of Japan after the earthquake in Russia.

However, experts warn that it is too early for complacency. “The second or even the third wave can be clearly stronger,” they note.
