The group PPCremaining loyal to his environmental commitments to reduce the fingerprint, he also participates this year on World Earth Day. In the context of his strategic plan, he invests dynamically in pure energyfocusing on the development of renewable energy sources, the creation of flexible production units and the utilization of innovative energy storage technologies, such as batteries and pumping, while modernizing distribution networks.
The PPC Group’s strategy is in line with the objectives of the Paris Agreement and the European Green Agreement, confirming its role as a pioneer of energy transition to Southeast Europe and enhancing its commitment to sustainable development and environmental responsibility.
With the slogan for 2025 “Our Power, our Planet”, Earth Day calls around the world to unite behind renewable energy, with the aim of tripling global pure electricity production by 2030.
In this context, it urges citizens, bodies and educational communities to participate in land action, through information, awareness and mobilization: to publicly make their own promise for the land, organizing or attending local activities, integrate relevant issues to their educational programs.
Fixed commitment to a more viable future
In the updated strategic plan for the period 2025-2027, the PPC Group sets even higher goals, as the three-year 2025-2027 is characterized as the three years of renewable energy sources in production, the development of flexible production units and electricity distribution networks.
Within 2025-2027, the PPC Group will reach an extremely important milestone for its green future, as in 2026 the withdrawal of the last lignite units will be completed, with a total power of 1.5GW.
By 2027, PPC will develop 5.6 GW of new RES projects in Greece and in the wider region of Southeast Europe, with the aim of setting up RES to reach 11.8 GW in 2027. Today, more than 65% of the RES added are in construction or ready to construct.
In addition to the development of RES projects, the PPC Group is significantly investing in flexible energy production and storage projects, such as gas units, hydroelectric projects, pumping, batteries, with the aim of establishing these projects to reach 1.8GW at 2027.
Strategic vision for climate neutrality
The PPC Group is committed to drastically reducing direct CO2 emissions by 80% by 2027 compared to 2019, contributing substantially to the reduction of greenhouse gaseous emissions.
The group has set the bar for viability very high and is firmly in the path of achieving its goals. The SCIENCE Based Targets Initiative (SBTI) International Initiative, following a thorough evaluation process, has endorsed the validity of the short -term and long -term targets of the PPC Group to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
According to SBTI, the targets submitted by the Group are fully aligned with the aim of limiting the temperature rise to 1.5 ° C, according to the Paris Agreement, as well as the achievement of complete climate neutrality throughout the value chain. Specifically, the approved objectives, which have a basis in 2021, include:
- Reduction 73.7% and 98.6% of Scope 1 & Scope 2 Gas Emittings of the Greenhouse per MWH produced by 2030 and 2040, respectively
- Decrease 73.7% and 98.4% of SCOPE 1 & SCOPE 3/Cat. 3 greenhouse gas emissions per MWh sold by 2030 and 2040, respectively
- Reduce 42% and 90% of absolute greenhouse gas emissions in all other categories of Scope 3 to 2030 and 2040 respectively
The ratification of its objectives by SBTI makes PPC the first Greek energy group with scientifically substantiated goals of reducing greenhouse gas emissions confirming its commitment to the green transition.
