According to authorities, at least 11 people were injured, one of whom is being treated at critical situation. The 22-year-old was arrested by the police, while the accident is under investigation.
“What happened this morning was a senseless tragedy. Our hearts go out to the loved ones of the victims and everyone affected,” Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercow said at a news conference, adding that “reckless driving put innocent lives at risk.”
Police spotted Samson around 12:30 a.m. as he was driving on I-275 South. Tampa police’s aerial unit spotted him on Hillsborough Avenue near 22nd Street, along with another car they were allegedly involved in, before he entered the freeway alone, the Daily Mail reports.

Samson finally got off the freeway and into downtown Tampa. As he sped through the streets of the city, which has a population of about 414,500, officers tried to stop him using a tactic in which patrol cars tap the rear of the vehicle to make it stop spinning. However, Samson managed to escape and continued to 7th Avenue, where he ran into Bradley’s.
The 22-year-old has been charged with involuntary manslaughter while driving, and additional charges are expected, according to police.
