Convinced to end the war in Ukraine The US President appears Donald Trump After his meetings Monday (18.8.25) at the White House, with Volodimir Zelenski, the European leaders who accompanied the Ukrainian president in Washington and after his telephone conversation with Vladimir Putin.
Donald Trump did not hide his optimism that the end of the war in Ukraine is closer than ever, even if the fire is not first achieved, as Kiev and Europeans wish but Moscow does not want.
In his statements during the meeting at the White House and In his post on Truth Social The US president said he was preparing the ground for a direct meeting of Vladimir Putin with Volodimir Zelenski and a trilateral meeting in which he himself will attend.
Characteristic of Trump’s optimism was his brief conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron, where – believing that the microphones were closed – he said, apparently referring to Vladimir Putin:
“I think he wants to close an agreement for me. Do you understand? No matter how crazy it sounds. “
However, the French president appeared skeptical of the Russian president’s intentions.
In his statements, Macron pointed out that the security guarantees that should accompany any peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia will be the “Roman” Ukrainian army capable of preventing any new attack.
He explained that he touched on talks at the White House that “these security guarantees” include to continue to exist “Roman Ukrainian army, which could resist any attempt to attack and prevent it, therefore, there would be no restrictions on their arrangements,” European leaders.

He also noted that the issue of the possible territorial concessions of Ukraine was not informed.
“We didn’t talk about this issue at all,” he assured, “for two reasons. First of all, priority is security guarantees; and then, we said ‘let’s be discussed at a bilateral and tripartite level’.
Mr Macron also called on “increasing sanctions” at the expense of Russia if the forthcoming negotiations fail.
If “the process” stumbles upon Moscow’s “refusal”, “we are all agreeing that we need to increase sanctions and, in any case, have a stance that will put more pressure on the Russian side,” the French state leader told Washington.
