“Prevention of violence starts with the family,” social cohesion Minister Domna Michaelidou stressed as part of the inter -ministerial press conference for the National strategy to prevent violence and dealing with minors’ delinquencyfor the period 2025-2030.
Ms Michaelidou, after describing the national strategy as “necessary”, recalled that the government has taken initiatives on this issue in 2019, but also stressed that “we still have a lot of work to do. We are dealing with the issue inter -ministerial, knowing what our goals are. “
The minister referred to the measures taken by the Government, and in particular the Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family, such as Line 1107 for child protection, minors, etc., in the establishment of the white criminal record for those working with children, and the importance of training.
He pointed out that “the family is the most decisive factor in protection of minors, as the child’s personality is formed there. So when violence finds space in the family and is accepted in a home or if living conditions become abusive, children do not learn to reject violence and do not speak when it happens. “
He added that “our responsibility is to protect the child in all the surroundings that develop, in the family, in kindergartens, in the CDPs and the CDPS/Disabled. In 2021 for the first time we defined child abuse in the law, established structures to protect violence victims. 3,500 bodies have already appointed a minor protection officer and more than 2,000 have been trained. “
It is noted that with the national strategy for preventing violence and dealing with minors’ delinquency, the government aspires to face the growing challenges facing young people in the digital and natural world, with particular emphasis on prevention and protection.
