“With targeted policies, over the last five years we have managed to make autistic spectrum disorders – a disability that have been on the sidelines for many years – visible and secure equal rights for all. Progress is unquestionable, but there is still a way to complete integration. But the message is clear: no one is left behind. ” This was stated by the Minister of Social Cohesion and Family, Domna Michaelidouduring an event held today in Piraeus, on the occasion of World Autism Awareness Day.
Specializing in the policies implemented by the Ministry to support people with autistic spectrum disorders, Domna Michaelidou focused on five key actions:
– “Early Intervention”: The total budget program of € 35 million is aimed at children aged 0 to 6 years and will benefit 2,500 children.
– “Personal Assistant”: An additional 500 people joined the program, raising the number of beneficiaries to 1,832 people.
– Enhancing social structures: Significant 44% increase (ie 461 euros per month) for foods for people with disabilities residing in boarding houses. This is the first increase since 2008.
– Increase by 50% of foods on supported living roofs. That is, 600 euros in addition per beneficiary each month. This is the first increase since 2014.
– Doubling the underwriting allowance for children with disabilities: from 375 euros, the allowance reaches 750 euros per month. This reinforces families that provide care and stability.
“With the policies we implement, but also with what we are planning, we make our commitment to complete and equal involvement of people with disabilities in all areas of social and economic life. The message is clear, we break the exclusion of five policy axes for the integrated support of people with autism, “said Domna Michaelidou.
During the event, co -organized by the Sports Directorate of the Municipality of Piraeus and AMKE “Jambol of Love”, sports and recreational activities were performed for children from special schools in the city. The central objective of the initiative was to enhance the message of acceptance, inclusion and equal participation of individuals in the autism spectrum, social life.
