Significant increase in both domestic consumption and total demand gas (which includes the export) During the first half of 2025, DESFA data was released today (9.7.2025).
In particular, Domestic gas consumption increased by 12.38% at 34.59 TWh, compared to 30.78 twh Total demand along with exports increased by 19.96% at 37.45 TWH, compared to 31.22 TWH in the first half of 2024.
It is also noted the increase in gas exports, through the Sidirokastro Interconnection Points and Nea Mesimvria, which amounted to 2.86 TWH, from 0.44 TWh last year – an increase in more +550%.
In terms of natural gas consumers, power generators covered 67% of domestic demand, with 23.25 TWH, up 18.08% compared to the first half of 2024 (19.69 TWH).
Distribution networks increased by 18.67%, reaching 7.69 TWH, while a 20.82% decrease was recorded by consumption by industries and supply of vehicles with compressed gas (CNG) directly connected to ESMF at 3.65 TWH.
In the first half of 2025, Sidirokastro and Revithousa were the main gates of natural gas entry in our country. Sidirokastro (from where the gas is introduced in Russian origin) recorded 16.40 TWH imports, an increase of 4.46% compared to 2024 while the Revithousa Liquid Gas Terminal (LNG) traded a total of 14.62 TWh, increased by 58.9% from 58.9%. During the period 22/4-11/5 due to scheduled upgrades.
In particular, 27 LNG tankers were unloaded at the station for 12 cargoes in the same period of 2024, transferring a total amount of LNG 14.66 TWH, increased by 63.62% compared to 8.96 TWH of 2024. The main LNG supplier was also the US this year, with the amounts unloaded by 11.87 TWH, up to 11.87 TWHs, TWH in the first half of 2024. Nigeria followed with 1.37 TWH, Norway with 0.93 TWh and Algeria with 0.49 TWh.
As for the rest of the entrance points, from the New Mesimvria (a connection point with the TAP pipeline) 5.47 TWH were introduced, a quantity of 9.29% compared to the corresponding period last year, while through the Amphitrite (FSRU Alexandroupolis) they were entered by 1.03 TWH LNG.
Finally, the LNG Truck Loading service of DESFA at the Revithousa terminal records strong growth, with the loading of 273 LNG trucks in the first half of the year versus 104 trucks last year and the transfer of 81.72 GWH equivalent to 30.72 GWH in the same period of 2024%. “The dynamic increase in cargo confirms that the service is gradually recognized as an effective and flexible solution to meet energy needs of remote distribution and industrial consumers in both Greece and the wider region,” DESFA said.
