OR Denmark made the decision that many countries have in their plans for the next few years and will ban minors under the age of 15 from connecting to social media. Parents, of course, if they want, can allow access to certain platforms to children over 13 years old, as announced by the government.
Last month, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, in a speech to parliament, advocated restrictions on children’s access to social media, citing concerns about their mental health.
“So-called social networks are flourishing by stealing our children’s time, childhood and wealth and we will stop this now,” said Minister of Digitalization Caroline Stage Olsen.
Most parties in parliament support the measure.
The platforms most used by minors in Denmark are Snapchat, YouTube, Instagram and TikTok, according to the government. The kids pass average 2 hours and 40 minutes on a daily basis on social media.
