A 22-year-old had lost his life in Ios Irish after quarrel he had with a compatriot.
ANT1 brings to light what the tourist, who was involved in the fatal quarrel in the early hours of August 30 in the alleys of Ios, claimed in his apology.
The culprit is a 20-year-old law student, who is accused of hitting his compatriot, as a result of which he fell to the ground and was fatally injured. Defendant in his apology said it all started when a third person started beating a member of his company.
“We left the club we were having fun with, stood for a while and talked about football teams in a friendly atmosphere with a group of Greeks. A person unknown to us, who knew English, with Asian characteristics, approached our company. “For no reason, he started insulting and harassing us with vulgar phrases and hit my friend with a strong cuff,” the Irish defendant emphasizes.
According to him, the rioter left, but a few minutes later another young man appeared: “He started swearing and hitting us. He punched me in the face and I instinctively tried to defend myself. As I pushed him away, he came back, apparently with the intention of hurting me, and tried to punch me. I did exactly the same repulsion move. I did not throw fists. At some point, due to his instability, he fell down on the road “.
The young Irishman, after his apology to the investigator Naxos, was released on bail of 8,000 euros and the restrictive condition to appear once a month at the Greek embassy in Dublin.
“After the apology, I think the accusation has been greatly weakened. The accused is currently waiting for the trial to be determined, for him to come to Greece to be heard and judged. Although he is unimaginably sad about the death, he fully believes in his innocence “, stresses the defense attorney of the young man, Alexis Anagnostakis.
The victim was a well-known athlete of “herling”, a sport very popular in his homeland and the news of his death occupied the Irish media.
