The Minister of Justice of her Czech RepublicPavel Blazek, today (30.05.2025) submitted his resignation, after the ministry received a gift of 40m euros to a Bitcoin owned by a drug dealer.
The Czech Ministry of Justice received this amount from a narcotics who had served a four -year prison sentence for abuse, drug trafficking and illegal possession of possession. This man was released in 2021.
The ministry then sold the cryptocurrencies at auction, collecting about 40m euros.
The origin of cryptocurrencies is unknown but Blazek argued that the courts never proved that they came from criminal activity.
“I don’t know that no illegality was done. But I do not want to tarnish the reputation of the government coalition, “he said in a post on the X platform.
Authorities are conducting an investigation into abuse of power and money laundering.
The 56 -year -old Blazek is a member of the right -wing ODS party of Prime Minister Petr Fyel, the head of the center -right government coalition since 2021.
The opposition demanded the minister’s resignation after the scandal was announced on Wednesday.
The bottle commented that he was convinced that Blaze acted “bona fide” and considers his resignation “act of responsibility”.
The Czech Republic is heading for parliamentary elections in the fall. Former Prime Minister Andrei Babis’ opposition Ano movement Ano is ahead of polls with about 30%, while ODS comes second with 20%.
