In an emotionally charged atmosphere, the unveiling of the statue of Tasos Isaac and Solomos Solomos on Saturday night (09.08.2025) at Paralimni at Cypruson the eve of the 29th anniversary of the assassination of Isaac in Deryneia, in the presence of Anastasia, daughter of Tasos Isaac.
“The assassins of my father and the Savior are circulating free, they give our possessions, and we continue to live in a regularity built on oblivion and amnesia,” Anastasia, daughter of Tasos Isaac, said excitedly, in the unveiling of the two Cypriots in the two Cypriots.
Anastasia recalled that on August 11, 1996, “the barbarians, with the help of the occupation army, beat my father, an unarmed man, with bats, stones and woods.”
He stressed that “we do not accept the sacrifice of Tasos and Solomos to go lost” and called on justice and arrest those responsible “to open the way of liberation”.
The unveiling, works by the sculptor Philippe Yapanis, was made by the Speaker of the House of Representatives Annita Dimitriou, who pointed out that the perpetrators were unpunished, while the arrest warrants and the ECHR decision in 2008 have not been implemented.
The event was attended by hundreds of motorcyclists of the Isaac -Solomos Memory Initiative, who crossed all the cities of free Cyprus and the Dryneia barricade before reaching the monument. Paralimni – Deryneia Mayor George Nikolettos stressed that the erection of the monument is a minimum tribute and assured that the memory of the two heroes would remain alive.
Was held on Sunday 29th Memorial
As part of the anniversary, on Sunday morning, the 29th national religious memorial of the two heroes was held at the Church of St. Demetrius in Paralimni, in the presence of government and political actors, dozens of motorcyclists and crowds. The Mayor of Paralimni – Deryneia George Nikoletos stressed that we have to continue the struggle for the rescue of Hellenism and the union of the shared homeland, stressing that their sacrifice is a “heavy but valuable legacy” and a lighthouse for the next.
Solomos’ utensils, sister of Solomos Solomos, said that the family carries “the burden of loss with pride that defeats pain” and that the sacrifice of the two does not seek revenge but “justification, freedom and historical memory”.
After the memorial service, a tragedy and wreath laying was held in the graves of Tasos Isaac and Solomos Solomos at the Paralimni Cemetery.
